October Diva Series Blends Rugby League Action with Breast Cancer Awareness
The October edition of the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) Diva Series delivered exciting matches, breast cancer awareness and motivational sessions at Accra Girls Senior High School on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
Four teams — Accra Girls SHS, La PRESEC, Next Gen and Old Guard — competed in six matches as the 2026 competition moved closer to its final round.
Next Gen opened their campaign with a 2–0 victory over La PRESEC, while hosts Accra Girls SHS suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Old Guard.
La PRESEC bounced back with a 2–0 victory over Accra Girls SHS, while Old Guard defeated Next Gen 2–0.
One of the highlights of the afternoon came when Accra Girls SHS recovered from two earlier defeats to secure a 2–1 victory over Next Gen. The final match saw La PRESEC narrowly lose 2–1 to Old Guard.
Beyond Rugby: Health Awareness and Motivation
Beyond the matches, the October edition featured activities aimed at educating, inspiring and empowering the participating girls.
To commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mrs. Juliette Mills-Lutterodt, Founder and President of Pink for Africa and a breast cancer survivor, engaged the players in a breast cancer awareness session. She shared her personal experience and highlighted the importance of early detection and taking personal health seriously.
The girls also had the opportunity to interact with Ghanaian singer-songwriter Susan Augustt, who delivered a motivational session encouraging them to believe in themselves, pursue their dreams and remain confident in their abilities.
Both sessions reinforced RLFG's commitment to developing young women beyond the rugby field through education, mentorship and personal development.
Current Standings
Following the October edition, Old Guard lead the standings with 36 points, followed by La PRESEC with 32 points. Next Gen occupy third place with 28 points, while Accra Girls SHS sit fourth with 22 points.
All Eyes on November 6 Finale
The four teams will meet again on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium for the final round of the 2026 Diva Series, which forms part of RLFG's Friday Night Footy event.
The final round will award 10 points to the first-placed team, eight points to second place, six points to third place and four points to fourth place.
With the championship and final positions still to be decided, the teams will be looking to finish the season strongly.
The October edition once again demonstrated how the Diva Series continues to provide a platform for women's rugby league development while addressing important issues affecting women and girls.
The Rugby League Federation Ghana invites the public to attend Friday Night Footy on November 6 to support the players and celebrate the conclusion of the 2026 Diva Series.
